Hiking shoes are not a must, but highly recommended. Hat is highly recommended, because the grass is tall and will attack head and neck. Without this, the grass will constantly cut the legs and arms skin. Some part of the path looks unpassable due to the grass. About 1.3 miles out of 2 miles tail (one way), the grass will cut legs and arms constantly. Grasses cover already narrow path, and it appears the path is not maintained at all. (I visited there when it rains everyday). Is full of tall and wide grasses and the path is very muddy. Pictures associated with Google map is no longer applicable. But one can legally park on unpaved part of the road. There is neither a sign post nor a marker. Search for “Captain Cook Monument Trail” in Google map.
